CPR and First Aid Instructor Upon completion of the Instructor Course criteria, individuals will be able to conduct American Heart Association CPR and First Aid courses.

ACLS Instructor Upon successful completion of the Instructor Course criteria, individuals are able to serve as an ACLS instructor in an American Heart Association Course using the latest tools and most up to date materials.

All prospective participants in an instructor course must:

  1. Possess current provider status in the discipline they wish to teach
  2. Have completed an instructor candidate application
  3. Complete the discipline-specific AHA Essentials instructional course
  4. Candidates are required to use instructor manuals during the instructor course.
  5. Posses a thorough knowledge and skill set for the discipline the wish to teach

Instructor candidates must demonstrate:

  1. Satisfactory performance of the skills in the discipline they wish to teach.
  2. A thorough knowledge of course organization; course content, and skills.
  3. A thorough knowledge of instructor responsibilities; and the AHA guidelines for the specific discipline

Instructor status is granted after an instructor candidate successfully completes the instructor course and meets the following requirements:

  1. Completes the online portions of the course.
  2. Scores an 84% or greater on the written test
  3. Successfully participates in the  classroom portion of the class.
  4. The candidate must successfully demonstrate his or her teaching skills, while being monitored, during 2 provider courses
  5. Individuals teaching independently must demonstrate they have the necessary equipment to teach.
